Under the Leaves
This poem is about the animals and plants that live in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England.
My inspirations were conservation, utilisation and foraging.
The verses are illustrated by my A4 size acrylic paintings on box canvas.
![]() In Sherwood Forest, under the leaves, lives a whole world, sheltered by trees. | ![]() The old badger, set in his ways, crosses the road, and has a close shave. |
---|---|
![]() The hunting fox, brushes off dew, runs through the grass, tail lit by the moon. | ![]() Lucky rabbit, nibbling at grass, sniffing the air, goes underground fast. |
![]() The furry bat, too dark to see, makes little squeaks, to swoop round the trees. | ![]() A barking dog, taking the lead, follows his nose, and rustles up leaves. |
![]() Sweet dark chestnut, split by sun rays, burnished brown heart, to squirrel away. | ![]() The man in green, who loves this place, takes a photo, and leaves without trace. |
