Take to the Wing

This poem is a celebration of the birds that we commonly see in the UK, and our relationships with them.

My inspirations were conservation and utilisation.

The verses are illustrated by my A4 size acrylic paintings on box canvas.

Take to the Wing

All round the world, Birds take to the wing, Eating pests, spreading seeds, A dawn chorus they sing.

Ducks

Sleek feathered ducks, Bed down in the reeds, Dip tails in the air, As they feed in the weeds.

Swan

The regal swan, with sinuous neck, Keep back from their nest, or they'll give you a peck.

Goose

Fatten the goose, Write V in the sky, Have a quick gander, as the goose skein flys by.

Pheasant

Ring necked pheasant, Flushed out, tail held high, Shoots out from field edge, Quickly hunting to hide.

Crow

Sharp beak and claws, Hawks hunting with skill, As the jet black crow, swoops to peck at road-kill.
